I thought secretaries just dealt with calls, messages and appointments etc. And assistants literally helped with everything that they were asked to.
you have to look at the specifics of the job. for some companies, the two terms 'assistant' and 'secretary' are the same. for some companies, 'secretary' is generally a front-desk job and 'assistant' is a personal secretary which may require more specialized skills than a regular secretary. many companies have replaced the job title of 'secretary' with 'assistant', because feminists find that job title offensive.
