Should I leave my girlfriend and job for a job offer in my field?

  • I am currently 22 and my girlfriend is 20. We have been dating for a year. We are both mature and very committed to each other. I like the job I am at now but have recently got a job that I went to school for and have always wanted. Problem is it's in a small town far away and their are really no jobs for her there + she is still trying to find a job in her field. Should I take the job in the small town and move away? This would mean giving up my decent job now, leaving home. (free rent) and moving somewhere with relatively high cost of living but it's my dream job. In the long run the job would pay off big time. Idk what to do please advise....

Take time to think about it and weigh how much you value your different options. You've made a small pro and con list here, but only you can truly determine if its worth it because only you know how much you value the each aspect. Personally, I would probably pass on the new job. Your 22, life is full of opportunities. If you truly apply yourself, it should not be overly difficult to land a job in your field in the future... perhaps in a bigger town/city where your girlfriend (if your still together) can also seek employment. But as I said, thats just me, based on my values. Ultimately, I'd say live life without regrets. Be honest with yourself and do what you want to do. Somewhat preachy or cliche, sure, but thats the best advise for your situation IMO.

Just listen to yourself. I know that both are important but you should also think what are the effect of your action in the present and the future. Try to weigh things down.
