Job consultant charges in UK?

• Dear Members of the forum, I am newly arrived in London. I am disperate and want to know about the charges of the job consultats. Recenlty I have cleared all rounds of interview. For this permanent job, consultant is charging me 15% throughout the year. Although the job is through his reference, I think he charging me more and unrealistic amount. I need help in this regard. Suppose my salary is GBP 40000/annum, he is going to charge me 15% on GBP 40000 i.e., near about GBP 500+ per month I will be giving him. Me only will be doing hardwork and he is going to earn 15% which is very large amount from that every month for the next 12 months. He is asking me to sign the contrat for this. I need help. Could you please advice me about this? I am new to UK and he knows it. I don't know how much the consultant normally charges the candidate. Is this the normal practice in UK? or what else?. I have cleared all rounds of the interviews and tests on my own; it is the only fact that he(consultant) knows somebody from that company and had forwarded my resume there. I have good no. of years of experience in Oracle. I need to take decision within next few days and don't know what to do. I request you to give me a thought/opinion/advice. Your early reply/opinion is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance

  The best place to get advise from is the Citizens Advice they will tell you all you need to know about the consultant or agency. Don't sign any contracts until you know exactly what you are doing.
