How is my Cover Letter?
-
hi, this is the first time i've ever written a cover letter. Its for an intership at an law firm, what do you think and how can i make it better? Thanks ( i only attached pasted the body of the letter) I am currently a sophomore at Georgia State University interested in interviewing for an internship at Halperin Lyman, LLC. I believe this position offers much potential and opportunity as I pursue my goal of becoming lawyer. From what I have heard and learned though research of Halperin Lyman, I believe my passion and strong work ethic would be an excellent fit to the Halperin Lyman team. Examples of my work ethic can be seen through my pervious jobs as well as my schoolwork. At Meadowbrook County Club I have received several raises and promotions starting as a Busser and am now a senior Setup Assistant. At Georgia State Athletics I started with an unpaid internship which after a semester was promoted as a paid intern. My strong GPA in both high school and college can be credited to my ability to focus and multitask my work life and schoolwork. Please take the time to review my attached resume for consideration for your internship position. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to grow professionally by gaining firsthand experience at a first class law firm. I firmly believe that I would be a great fit to Halperin Lyman’s staff and with time become an invaluable asset. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Answer:
To be honest with you, I would try to concentrate your efforts on having the ability to do the job in question. If they have certain requirements for the job, make sure you can do everything they are asking for, and if you can, tell them that in a cover letter. I would forget all that other personal stuff - except for perhaps your research on their company and their public profile. How do YOU know if you would make a perfect fit? This is what they must decide and not you. Everyone says that anyway, so it is a waste of time saying it even. I would mention that while researching their company you have become excited at the prospect of joining them, and look forward to discussing your abilities in due course. Keep it simple enough to impress the reader, and make sure you can meet ALL requirements for the job in question. That's all you will have to do at this stage. Hope this helps.
