What's a good part-time job to apply for with few hours?

Can the Job Centre check whats in your account?

  • basically, my friend [cousin lol] is claiming JSA and has taken a job but still claiming. the job is only 9 hours a week on a weekend, but he isn't going to tell the Job Centre [yet]. I told him he should in case they check his details or something [hence this question cause he said they can't] but he doesn't want to because they'll take everything he earns from his job [£50] from his JSA so he'll be working for the same as he gets on Job Seekers basically. he said soon as he gets more hours or a.nother part time job [or full time] he doesn't plan on saying anything. but i told him he may as well just tell them instead of getting funked by them and having to pay however much back.

  • Answer:

They won't need to check his bank account, they will find out he is working, all the agencies share information. Best just tell them. As for working for the same amount of money, earning is better than scrounging, no?

The employer probably has their NI number, everything can be traced back. Just tell them, like someone has already said it's better to earn your money anyway.

They can check your account, as they always ask you how much you have in savings and they want proof of it, but there are many other ways of finding out if he's working. His national insurance number is used to calculate the tax, which will obviously alert them, and even if it's cash in hand or whatever it's so easy to get caught out. If someone did spot him they wouldn't just walk up to him and say "what are you up to?" they would file a report and maybe even watch him for a while to be sure he's working. Whichever way they find out he can get a huge fine, get all his benefits cancelled for the next 6 months to a year, and have to pay everything back. It really isn't worth it, and he will be kicking himself if he has to deal with all that just for the sake of a few extra quid a week.
