Is being let go at job considered being fired?

Heres what happened.... I resigned from my job I was at for four years in 2009. Well I decided to go back this year. I am very coo with my supervisor so he hired me on in September as a temp work. I was told that I was covering for someone until she gets back. On one snowy day I decided to not go in but I didn't call my supervisor to let him know. I know bad on me and I feel stupid. I really like this job I think I was a little to comfortable thinking that by me being friends with my supervisor I can get away with it, just being honest. I'm very upset at my self because they had to let me go, he just wanted to talk to me and write me up but his boss was the one who told him to let me go. I spoke to human resources and payroll they had no idea that i was let go....so i ask if im eligiable for rehire and they said yes i was but by me being temp i guess they assumed the girl had came back so i was let go due to her coming back to work. My question is even though they said I'm am elgiable can I get rehired at the same company or will this affect me from getting a Permanente position when one opens up. Should I be embarrassed to go back. I really Ike this job and I pretty much know a lot of people there I just feel stupid because I left there in good standing to go back and get let go because no call no show I know I was a temp but that just stupid. Please help me with this. Was I fired... My supervisor said I didn't call or show up so he had to let me go because I was a temp and when your a temp they don't have to give you a reason to let you go.

I recommend you contact your former boss who you were friendly with and ask him right out if there is a chance for you to be rehired? It is important you are open with him and again state you realize that not calling /no show was not professional. Additionally you have grown and really want the opportunity to work for the company. You would be willing to start in a part position eventually to a permanent position to demonstrate your level of becoming more responsible i.e. coming to work everyday doing the best possible job no more absences. Typically jobs do not retain personnel files on temp employees or if they do performance issues are not documented. In my 30 years as a Vice President of a bank managing a staff of 20 I have seen and heard as well as experienced all types of situations where employees were rehired. In one instance one of my best employees resigned only giving me a one week notice, the standard was two weeks, and she did not do well at her new job eventually laid off. The staff was impacted having to do their work and assume her job functions thus they worked add'l hours for two months until I could find a replacement and then training. It was three (3) years later and she was extremely humble when she called me asking I give her another chance. I did give her another chance with a 6 months instead of 3 month probation period to protect myself. She stayed with me for another five (5) years as a top performer and when she resigned she gave me two (2) weeks notice. The moral of the story is nothing ventured is nothing gain give it a shot.
