Should i change my name back before getting a passport?

I am getting married and changing my legal name, what documents do i need to change the name too?

  • Ok a little bit more details, I am getting married next month and i am changing my legal name to my fiance's last name. what type of documents do i need to change? i know i have to change my license, my social security and also my passport but i became a US citizen not long ago and it comes with my maiden name, i know i can't change that document, but would it affect me later in the future that everything else has my new name yet my citizenship certificate doesn't? or it is ok as long as i have my passport and my marriage certificate? please answer me, this is very important to me. serious answers only please

  • Answer:

If you are simply adopting your husband's name after the wedding, all you need is your marriage certificate. This is not really "changing your name" in the sense of a random change

Other answers

It varies by state law. In most states, once you get married, all you do is log on to the Web sites of places such as the RMV and fill out a form changing your personal information. Most of the time, any legal forms you fill out will ask for both your current name and any other names, such as your maiden name, that you have previously been known by. You'll be fine with the citizenship papers in your old name. Best wishes to you and your new husband!
