What is employment application?

What do I say on an Employment Application?

  • Here's the situation: When I was 17 (8 years ago) I was charged with a misdemeanor (In the state of Missouri, you are charged as an adult if you committed a crime at age 17). SO, it comes up on my background check. Here's the question: What should I put down on an employment application under "Have you been charged guilty of any conviction?" Technically "yes," but if I put that down, I'm thinking "BAM, I won't get the job because it's too tight out there and they are going to weed out the criminals first." If I put "no," I'm lying but it's in a Grey area... What do you think the right answer is?

  • Answer:

If you were charged, but not found guilty, then you were not convicted. Most generally the question is about a felony conviction.
