How to ask a previous employer to rehire you?

If i gave a 2 weeks notice to my employer and qualify for "future rehire", can they deny hiring me?

  • since i gave a 2 weeks notice to my past employer over 3 years ago my supervisor said i qualified for future rehiring...i was not fired, i work there til the last day i was supposed to... now its been a bit over 1 year i tried applying again and the ladies in the human resource office keep telling me that they have to check if i qualify for rehire... and i know i do...i've been told by other workers who have been in my position of rehire that i need to insist because if i don't they wont look over my application... so i've tried many times speaking to the ladies in human resource but no one ever answers so i tried leaving messages asking what steps to follow but they don't call back..so i want to know can they deny re hiring me if i gave my 2 weeks notices and "qualify for rehire".????? pleaaaaasee help... !!!!

  • Answer:

Of course they can - they don't HAVE to rehire you any more than they HAD to hire you in the first place. Eligible for rehire just means you aren't automatically disqualified, not that you automatically get rehired if you apply.
