When you sign off the dole, do you get a P45?

I need to sign on the dole, but I've never done it before and I'm a bit anxious about it?

  • Ok first of all, I worry too much lol. I finished college at the end of August 2011, I went to a job interview the following day but I didn't get the job. I then went to the job centre and asked for advice about signing on the dole and they told me to either ring them up and make an appointment or just go over and make an appointment there. I decided to phone them up but I couldn't get through to them as I didn't have the direct number to contact them, after four days of trying to contact them I finally got speaking to someone, they asked me for my details/ national insurance number etc. and said someone will ring me back. It has been 2 days and no one has rung me back for some reason. What should I do?

  • Answer:

Ring again and tell whoever answers that no one has called you. Make sure you have all the information they require such as all your personal details, where you live and what it costs you etc. You may be able to claim housing and council tax benefit. If all else fails then by all means go to the JC , but make sure you remind them of the date you originally contacted them.

Other answers

i think its best you go to the dole office, you will lose benefits if you do not claim on time.

You have to call them back, don't know the number but it is an 0800 number and expect to be on for at least 30 minutes answering the questions, they will then give you an appointment at your nearest job centre for the interview which takes around 40 minutes, they ask various questions about what type of job you are looking for but tell them you will do anything and you must be able to work weekends, do not say you cannot do weekends or you wont get benefit, they will then give you a day to sign on and your money will be paid 3 working days later into your bank account.
