What are the signs that job interview went well?

Do you think my job interview went well? Please tell me what you think :)?

  • Hi :) I have been looking for a new job since I am only 23 and looking to find something I feel happy with for the long term that pays decent money. I just had a job interview at a HUGE investment company that is offering more than I ever made before. I REALLY want this job! I walked in to find a gorgeous building with glass windows and the office covered in marble floors :) I loved it! I was so happy to get this interview. My resume has the exact truth on it. I have never even been to college but I do online college courses working toward a certificate in Human Resource Management. Anyway, so I arrived at the interview and met with the department leader who is my age. She was really nice. We had a nice chat about my experience and where I live. She was friendly and told me a lot of details about the position and salary. Then, I was asked to wait and meet with her manager who is a pretty young guy probably in his 30's. My interview with him went very well. I felt confident so we chatted a bit about my commute since I live up North. He smiled a lot and laughed. He asked me about my experience which is mostly general office admin. Mostly, he talked to me about the position they are hiring for. He told me his plans for the future with this particular position and that whoever is hired would work alongside another employee and ....so on. It sounded really great and I showed a lot of interest. He even mentioned that the company is in the process of moving locations and then he said "actually I guess that would be better for you" because I live closer to the new location. There seemed to be no negativity. He mentioned that he and the young girl I met with are both on vacation for the holidays next week and the week after and are not returning until the New Year. He said he really wants to get a move on and get this started to he said they should have a decision by the 1st or 2nd week in January. ....Now, the only thing I feel funny about is....they didn't ask me for my references. I mean, I guess they could ask me in January but I thought it was kind of funny. I thought an interested employer would want references. So, in my opinion the actual interview went well...but??? I am anxious so I would like some opinions! :) What do you think? Oh yea, and the young lady also mentioned to me that they recieved over 200 resumes! So I was one of the one's who actually made it to an interview I guess :)

  • Answer:

They may like you and perhaps want to hire you. About the reference, I think it's ok that they did not ask you because based on all my experience, HR is the one who follow up with you with this type of thing. Remember though that you are in a very competitive job market and they may like the other candidates better. Sorry if I put you down. What you should do is to send both of them the thank you note - show them your interest in the position and the company and your qualifications that match the requirements of the positions. Although they like you, but you have to make sure your skills match with what they are looking for. Good luck with job search!

Sounds like it went well to me! I wonder why they did not ask for your references when you applied, or why you did not provide them at the time. I would not let the lack of the request for references at the interview scare you. Many places today do not even ask for references, since almost no one would provide a bad reference. Good luck!

It sounds like you did a good job and it is good that he said he might make a decision but you have to take it a step further. It's always up to you as a job applicant to send a thank-you note and make a follow-up phone call after an interview.
