How do you explain an odd position on your resume to employers?

After working in a good field for a long time, I have decided to try a new profession, but found out I do not like the new choice I have made. Now I have decided to go back in my original profession which I enjoy very much. What do you say to prospective employers about that "odd position" I took, as I wish to re-enter my original profession?

Just be honest and say you were exploring alternatives. Say you always liked your job, but that you were wanting to explore a change and that you realized this change was not for you. Hence, you want to return to your old field and you can honestly say after exploring another alternative you find yourself more committed to this industry/position/whatever as this exploration helped you realize you were where you belonged the entire time.
