Do you get paid for doing job orientation?

Will I get paid for a work orientation if I don't keep the job?

  • Im a new grad RN and I attended an 8 hour orientation yesterday. The staff were miserable people and they were very unprofessional. The woman told me to be there at 6:45 am to sign papers and she showed up at 9 am and offered no apologies. Then they told me to show up today at 2:45 pm for my first shift and they called me at 2:15 when I was already on the way and said to come in tomorrow. I was offered another job today one i like a lot more. I want to take this new job, will I get paid get for the orientation if i politely tell them i don't want to keep the original job. the pay in total would be $160.00. My father says that legally they don't have to pay me for the orientation if I don't keep the job?

  • Answer:

I don't know for sure but I think they have to pay you for your time, because orientation is usually only given to employees. So therefore you were working for them. But If you really hate it that much, even if you don't get paid that might be a bridge that you should let burn and just move on.
