I work at a pub and am being sexually harassed at work, what do I do?
-
I just started my hostess position about two weeks ago and am already being sexually harassed by one of the bartenders. He got my PIN (not from me) and is constantly trying to talk to me on BBM. I have tried in numerous ways to get him to stop. I have told him many times that I have a boyfriend but he simply doesn't care, I've also deleted him off of BBM and he harasses me to add him back until I do so. I don't want to go to my boss about it because I just got hired and I don't want to stir things within the work place. I also thought about getting the police involved but that would probably lead to me losing my job seeing as how my employer will get involved. Are there any other ways to tell this creep to back off?

Answer:
bring it up with your boss. if he doesn't do anything about it call the police. you can not be fired over this. sexual harassment is a serious issue and is not to be taken lightly.

Hate to burst your bubble, but nothing in your description shows sexual harassment. Someone liking you is not sexual harassment Definition: Unwanted and/or unwelcomed comments or actions of a sexual nature. You have not alleged that he said or did anything that could be construed as Sexual harassment. Secondly, your employer cannot be held liable if they have no knowledged of the alleged sexual harassment. They also have no liability to any actions by the employee when he is away from the workplace. Finally, if you are being sexually harassed in the workplace and complain to your employer, it would be illegal for your employer to takle any tangible/adverse employment action against you for your making the complaint. That is known as unlawful retaliation.
Tell your boss and if he don't stop you will file a complaint with him and the local health department as it is not a safe place to work.
Sorry sweetie, you have to tell your boss. Chances are you are not the only person this bartender is or has bothered and he is a liability to the business. You are not doing yourself of the company any favors by putting up with it. Think of all the other women who you may save from experiencing the same from this guy. I know it is akward, but you need to speak up. If it was your best friend, you would tell her to speak to the boss, wouldnt you?
Tell your boss.
