How can the husband be advised in relation to this decision. Is the dismissal legal & can he get his job back?

On 4 separate occasions, wife had attempted to commit suicide. On each occasion her husband a well respected doctor physically tried to stop her. On 3 of those occasions he caused injury to her. They are now separated and the wife is threatening to take legal actions. Husband was aquitted of all criminal charges in relation to these incidents, the local hospital where he has worked part time for many years, has sacked him, citing the 'whole incident' as a reason. How can the husband be advised in relation to this decision. Is the dismissal legal and can he get his job back.
