What shows up in background checks?

Are Self-Employment Positions on Background Checks?

  • I currently do some work online and I am considered to be self-employed, or an independent contractor. When receiving background checks, will my online job show up in my background check? If so, will it just say, "Independent Contractor," or will it say, "[company name]"? I'm just a bit curious because I heard that when you're self-employed, you are your boss...but I was wondering what actually shows up. If anyone knows, that would be great! Thanks!

  • Answer:

Self employed means you are your own boss and there are lots of tax implications to being self employed. The other post is correct, there is no database of employment accessable by prospective employers.

No, and neither will non self employment jobs. Background checks are for criminal history. There is no database of job histories for anyone to check your name against.
