Can I still file for unemployment?

• after being employed at a daycare for just over 12 months, a job where I have been told on numerous occasions that I would always have a job, I am being told, rather it is being demanded that I sign an Employment/Non disclosure agreement. I was told that if I do not sign it I will be fired. The notion of a Non disclosure agreement came about after a child at the daycare was injured and I was accused of being a "whistle blower" I was also asked to do something Illegal during that time and did in fact report the situation. Part of this paper I am being demanded to sign says I agree to be an "at will employee" thus giving my employer the right to fire me for any reason, without reason, at any time, any place, with or with out notice, without cause!!!! My question is do I or any of my Co-workers have to sign this document to keep our jobs? If I refuse to sign and do in fact get fired, can I still get my unemployment??? I was not asked to sign anything upon my employment, So why after a year is she suddenly asking me to sign this document?

  you are not a union employee, you do not have a contract = you are an "at will employee" whether you sign the paper or not. Signing the paper is just acknowledging that you know this, although it DOES NOT change the current relationship (i.e. you are ALREADY an at will employee). - you will not be eligible for unemployment by failure to sign this agreement. The non-disclosure portion of the document, may or may not be legal, depending on what it says. If it says that you won't go to the authorities when laws are broken that is obviously illegal. - sign it or don't sign it = you still have to go to the authorities when laws are broken.
