Is it legal to dock pay for?

Is it legal for company to dock your pay on minimum wage job?

  • My girlfriend started working for a gold buying company and they made her sign a paper saying if you made a bad buy they could take the money from your buying bonus's. Basically the more you buy $ wise in gold the more the bonus you get. You buy some that doesn't test the same when it's processed by the company they can take from your bonus. Now here's the dirty thing there not only taking from just your bonus there taking from here actual pay check. So really if you do the math she isn't even making minimum wage. She bought one gold coin that didn't test right and they were going to dock her entire pay check but instead there taking like $65 out of every one till it's covered. I've tried looking at the national labor board site but I don't know exactly where to look and wouldn't know which division to call. Can anyone help ? She'd just quit but without another job it's already tough enough to pay the bills.

  • Answer:

Does the paper she signed say JUST her bonus or in the fine print does it say her wages as well? That is the only thing that matters right now so check it out. She might as well quit because if she stands up for her rights (if the contract allows any) they will just fire her. No labor laws are going to cover a contract issue. Sue the owner in small claims that has been withheld outside of the "bonus" IF that is what the contract says.
