Nervous about my first day on a the first job?

Quitting My Very First Job After My Very First Day?

  • I work at Liberty Tax Service as a waver. Yes, I'm the dude in the statue of liberty costume holding the sign waving at people. I only took the job out of desperation as they hired me on the spot. Yesterday was my first day of work and I want to quit already. This job is way too physically demanding for me. I went home with a cramp in my legs and arms. It made the very long commute hard as I had to drive manual with a charlie horse in my legs every 2 seconds. I also live pretty far from work. I got home feeling very sick wanting to vomit. I'm pretty sure I'm going to quit but I was just wondering how it would affect my employment history and possible future job offers. Will future employers be able to see this job in my employment history? Also, will i have to file taxes even if it was just one day's worth of work? I had to give all my info to the company including SSN. It may seem like I'm whining but the job is more than just standing outside with a sign and I have so much respect for those people now. Please be specific with your responses. I don't know anything about filing taxes and employment history as this is my first legit job so I would like to gather as much knowledge on this subject as possible without any ambiguity. Thanks in Advance!

  • Answer:

If you don't list it on a job application, future employer's will not know that you worked there. Yes, you will have to file a tax return since there was probably some tax deducted for one day. I wouldn't stress about it too much, it was a good learning experience and the fact that they were willing to hire you on the spot means that there were many others before you, so they are used to people leaving. It's a tough job. Good luck!

LOL you had to drive with a charlie horse. Listen they hired you when you were in need give them back that gratitude. Once your body gets used to it you will be alright and you will feel better and make money. If you quit no one will know unless you put it down on paper but I think you should not be so ungrateful and it will make you look like you do not fulfill your obligations which will become a pattern unless it has not already hence first legit job. They will have to report it to the IRS even for one day but it should not harm you unless you put it on your resume which I would not dare. Best Wishes and hang in there you never know someone in the office may be so impressed that they may be willing to invest in you and train you to do taxes dont give up on yourself so soon

They are obligated to send you the required paperwork for your taxes. As for your future employers, they'd have to know your current one to know your situation. I hope you find something suitable for you that you like soon. Leaving after a single day is a bad sign, no matter what the job is.

By first legitimate job, if you mean first paid job, yes, you put it on your income tax. But, if you have other non-paid experience, you can omit it on resumes and job applications and use the non-paid experience of greater experience and time. If you need more info I'll try to look out for you and help as I can from my years with state employment and unemployment. Just a short note, 1 day is not enough to file for unemployment and quitting the first day could get you penalized, depending on your reasons.
