I have an AA degree, I don't have a driver license, and no real job experience,?

I've only worked retail and food service. I would LOVE to be able to have a "real" job, but I don't have any kind of training or education. I look on web sites for jobs that sound interesting, but you need experience, a BA, and sometimes a driver's license . I don't have any of those things but would LOVE to be able to do more than what I'm doing now. How can I get that experience? I'm 35 and have to compete with kids who have all the things that I don't have. I would LOVE to be given a chance at a job that says that you need to have experience, so I can get it. People need to be given a chance. Just because they don't have a BA or experience doesn't mean that they can't and won't be an asset to the company. The questions are: where and how can I get the experience that you need, who will give someone a chance?

well first of all, get a drivers license Second, start on a BS degree. I know it isn't fair, but a BS degree is still a requirement for a lot of jobs. Complaining doesn't help.

As you've noticed, a Bachelor's degree is often a requirement to even get past the hiring department of most companies. However, college isn't for everyone and you may not be interested in pursuing a Bachelor's degree. First, what kind of job are you looking for? Your local government jobs often hire entry level positions for basic office work, but you'll need some clerical skills. You can obviously type. That's a minimum. Try to practice and increase your typing skills. There are also trade schools that in a few months give you a certificate for a certain skill set. That would be a big help and should give you some basic clerical skills. Some may even have job placement where they help you look for a job.

Without a drivers license you're restricted to jobs where you can walk or ride a bike (or if you're in a metro area- take public transportation). Unfortunately you're never going to be able to get real jobs and real experience without a license. Many companies don't require a degree, they just require experience. Becoming a manager at a retail or food store is nothing to scoff at, my uncle manages an Arby's and makes $50K per year. That's plenty of money for a couple to survive in most areas as long as they're good at budgeting and living below their means.
