How do I create a resume!?

  • Okay so I want to get my first part-time job. I have a problem though, I don't have a clue how to write a resume, so how do I write an effective resume? What kind of information should I have on my resume? Is there anthing else I should do? Please help I'm tired of being broke! :)

While it is best to use power-words in your objective statement and the beginning of sentences, you can make every task and responsibility sound proactive and valuable on your entry-level resume. Just be careful to use the correct words in its appropriate context! Presentation Presentation is very important in your entry-level resume. Make sure that: * it has a simple and easy-to read-structure * it is balanced and uncrowded, with as much space between blocks of text as possible * it includes all the necessary information (such as extracurricular activities, education and previous employment skills) * the blocks of text are no longer than six lines * you use bullet points when describing your past job responsibilities (a great place to include power-words!) * it is grammatically correct Make sure that your entry-level resume is uniform with the use of bullet points, boldface, italics and underlining. Stay focused! Keep in mind the job you are applying for and don’t crowd the page with unnecessary details; choose your words wisely–shorter is usually better. If you know the job and company that you are applying for, it is much easier to create an entry-level resume that will be most appealing to your potential employer. If you are a student, there are people at your school who can help you with that. If you are in high school, see your counselor. If you are in college, there are people working at your school that are there to help you find jobs. Whatever you do, just don't use a template like the ones that they have in MS Word. Make your own from scratch. Make sure you go to an office supply store and buy resume paper. I'm wondering, though, do you even need a resume? If you're looking for a part-time job, it might not be necessary. If the job is something like retail or fast food or any kind of heavy labor, I wouldn't even bother with the resume. You can give them one, but they will probably look at you like you have three eyes. Those types of places only look at the job application. However if it's a part-time office job or something like that then disregard that previous statement.
