What is the starting rate for a new medical assistant?

Is a starting salary of $50K for an amateur chef de partie in Florida a fair deal, or should I ask for more?

  • I have an Associate of Science in Culinary Arts and about 1 year in a kitchen a front of the house assistant management, I found something in a luxurious restaurant and starting pay is 50K a year BEFORE taxes, I feel its rather low, they want me to work for them, I sign papers on Monday, should i negotiate a better rate of pay?

  • Answer:

That is a GREAT rate of pay for your experience!! My husband is a chef with a long resume, lots of awards, and went to 4 years at the best culinary school in the country. He has chef de parties who work under him, and ALL of them are hourly employees not on salary. I'd be thankful just to be on salary if i were you! Especially since you only have 1 year of experience in the kitchen. That is not much. And the more experience you have, the more money you will be able to ask for. I would definintely take the 50K and plan to make the bigger bucks as you move higher in your career. The money will come-- its too early to start asking for it now. Good Luck!
