How Long will it take for me to Become a RN (BSN)?

  • Im 18 and i graduate this june 2011, and i want to become a Maternity RN (BSN). Right after high school im going to a community college and attend full time (Aug. 2011). But im confused on when i will graduate college with my degree and all? how long will it take to do my pre-reqs plus my nursing program (BSN) in maternity at the same college??? What year will i finish if i go full time? And what age will i be when i become one??? Thanksss :)

  • Answer:

It takes 2 years in a com. college and 2 more years in a BSN program to become a RN. It might take a little longer if you want a specialty, I could be wrong though. I suggest you contact advisors at the colleges you want to attend for nursing for more information. You only need a 2 year, AS degree to be a nurse by the way.

You don't do a nursing program "in maternity" or any other specialty. With RN programs, your clinical training will rotate you through various different nursing specialties so you obtain some exposure to all. Once you have your nursing degree and pass the NCLEX licensing exam, THEN you can worry about specialization.
