How do i become a nurse?

How do I become a registered nurse?

  • I read that I can become a Registered Nurse for two years after receiving my Associate Degree and then when I do start working as RN I'll have a job to support myself to take two classes Nursing and Pre-med. Pre-med is completely different from nursing and that I only want to be an RN so I can have a job to support myself, pay my tuition half though, and other things I may need to get my bachelor degrees. I want to go for my four year degree after completing my two year degree so I can get my bachelor, can I do that? Also, is there a program that helps nurses with Assc. degree get their bach. degree I would like to know what these programs are and how could it help me become a nurse? I read it but i never fully understand about these certain programs that people offer for nurses with Assc. degree. Help please!!! Looking for RN as back-up plan if medical school did not work for me.

Well, you can get an associate's degree and become an RN, or you can get a Bachelors. I would recommend the BSN (that is what I did!) If you get an ADN, many larger hospitals won't hire you. In the Texas Medical Center they are only hiring BSN-RNs, not ADN-RNs. Plus, you will go to school for almost 4 years to get your ADN, then you will have to turn around and spend another year getting your BSN. If you jump straight into your BSN, the whole thing will take about 4 years. Why would you spend 5 to 6 years getting an ADN then a BSN when you could just suck it up and get a BSN in 4 years? Especially if you plan to keep on going to medical school.

It is kind of pointless to get your bachelors for an RN when you only need Associates. There isnt a great pay incentive for having a bachelors, unless youre wanting to manage, like be a DON(director of nursing) and even then they let people with associates do that. RNs make pretty good money especially if youre a traveling rn. There are scholarships out there for people wanting to be nurses because there is such a shortage try fastweb.com or one of those scholarship finding sites to help you find one.
