Surgical Tech a good career choice?

HELP!I need to make a career choice, How much does a RN make verses a Radiology Tech?

  • I am 39yrs old, attending college and almost done my cores. I was wanting to do Radiology, but now I am having second thoughts. I am afraid I will get bored. I want to know what is an average pay for an RN verses a Radiology Tech. I do not want to get stuck just taking x-rays all day, that would get boring. I also have a past that is a bad past, a withheld judication Cocaine felony which I am going to get sealed because I am not that person anymore, THANK GOD!. I am really confused, can anyone give me some suggestions?

  • Answer:

RNs start between $25 and $30 per hour. Radiology Techs start around $15 to $18. You will want to check with your board of nursing before investing a lot of time and money in nursing school. You might not be eligible for licensing with your record. There is a procedure for getting a predetermination if you have anything questionable. A friend of mine did not do that because his offense had been exsponged, but they somehow found it in a background check. Because he had 'concealed' this information, he had to pay a fine, take an ethics course, wait a few months after graduating, and STILL has a flag on his license for the first year.

The amount varies incredibly from place to place, but a very general result shows that both make about the same ($42-52,000 starting salary) - I'd say go for the field that interests you the most. You've got to do work that makes you happy - I think you'd like the RN work much more.
