How much does a physician assistant get paid?

Can anyone give me some info on being a physician assistant?

  • Im currently in nursing school and am interested in switching gears and becoming a physician assistant. I was wondering if it would be smart to get my bsn in nursing and then continue my education with a masters in physician assisting. The reason I ask is because there is at least a 1 year waitlist to get into the actual nursing program at my school. I was wondering if maybe just majoring in biology (where theres no wait) would be a smarter decision to help speed things along. Are there any PA's who have some advice? Another thing is that I believe that you have to have so many paid hours in the healthcare field to be accepted into the PA programs, so I thought nursing would be good for that, but Im wondering what kind of experience I could gain if I wasn't a nurse. Any help or info you have would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

Two things I'd like to point out. You're taking a seat in nursing school if eventually you want to be a PA. Secondly, training for PA is medical - based, and not nursing based (although they do very similar things when they work, for example, in a clinic). If you want to be a provider, then go for NP which is a master degree for a nurse. A year wait? What is the rush?

I'm looking to get into PA school, so you can listen or not. Getting a BSN would be great if you wanted to but you can get your degree in biology or chemistry or any life science you want, do the pre-reqs and apply. Some require a bachelors degree before applying some don't. Try to look around at some schools you can think of and see what they require. About the paid experience, you don't have to have any PAID experience otherwise how would those who don't work and go to school only get into school? what they want is volunteer experience. Get CPR certified and be an orderly or shadow a local PA and see what it's like. Like I said earlier, I;m not a PA so take this whatever grain of salt you want. Good luck!
