Where can medical assistants work?

Can Medical Assistants work in the hospital in Montana?

  • My boyfriend and I are thinking of moving closer to his family and I'm a new MA. I just finished school and both my California and National certification tests and I know in CA that I cannot and I know that differs in every state. I cannot find the Montana medical board or regulation information either.

  • Answer:

Its not that you can't (even in CA), its just that not all the skills needed to be a nursing assistant are taught in MA school. MAs are unlicensed so that is a problem. Any hospital that is willing to train you to be more of a PCT (patient care tech) can hire you, but many don't want to bother training when they can hire someone already trained. So some hospitals do work with MAs. It is a facility decision, not a state one.

MA usually work in outpatient clinic, and not in hospitals. For hospitals, it would be CNA.
