Do you like your job as a Medical Assistant?

Better job: medical office assistant or accountant/bookkeeper?

  • I have to make a decision between these two programs. The thing is I would like studying the medical office better. But, MOA make 14 and hour and accountants make 16.25. So, there is a difference there. But, how do I decide if it would be worth it. I mean, if I don't like studying accounting, chances are I will hate working in accounting. It's not that it's difficult, in fact the medical office assistant program is suppose to require more intellectual ability. But, that is a difference of about 5,000 a year, over 40 years, that is about 200,000 or so in my lifetime. Not a huge difference really, when you think about it. IDK. In the back of my mind I think the medical office assistant could start making more, with the demand of health care rising with some passage of health reform (even if the public option is not in it). Well, clearly the public option is not going to be in it. But, what do you think? My gut says medical office assistant.

  • Answer:

I have been an accountant for 12 years and I can tell you, if you don't like accounting at all, DON'T get into the profession. It can be very tedious, boring and boring. (Yes I said boring twice). My advice, do what you like and like what you do. If you are good and what you do and you enjoy it, the money will fall into place.
