How do you move to a Personal Assistant?

Would getting certified as a Medical Assistant be a good move in this economy?

  • I have a two year degree in English, and I'm wanting to transfer to a four year university to get a degree in Health Education...but I don't have the money and I'm terrified of taking out a loan in this economy =/ Instead I'm thinking about going back to my local community college and getting a certificate in Medical Assisting. Is this a good move?

    I am a medical assistant...and its a great job! It doesn't pay more than 17/hr (you can live off this salary but its a little tight nowadays) I definitely enjoy my job but it is just a stepping stone to bigger and better things. Once you have a job in the medical field and are exposed to so many other opportunities you will quickly find out that this isn't the end of your job search! I am currently a premed student because working side by side with doctors really inspired me to go further!

Unfortunately, there aren't supposed to be too many jobs for the MA (or medical biller or coder) despite what those private $$ career/tech schools say. With the numerous training programs available, the field is saturated. A lot of MAs have said how frustrating it is that most employers prefer applicants with 1-2 years experience in the field to possibly get the job. For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search. If still interested in the field, perhaps the community college's program is not too expensive as you'd mentioned. Please only consider programs accredited within the industry.
