What careers are available for someone with a Masters in Nursing?

Careers in medicine (nursing) questions?

  • I am taking prerequisites for nursing right now. Im still not sure if I want to be a nurse or go into research or do something else. I still havnt volnteered ata hospital but I plan to soon. I think that I want to work with cancer patients. my question is...how do you do this? i read that an oncology nurse needs a masters degree. So if I took a job before I got my masters, what would I work as? would it be internships, etc? I just want to know the path that I should take to get there...

  • Answer:

You can work as a nurse while you pursue your MSN. A lot of schools offer online nursing master's programs because it's less clinical and more supervisory/clarical type stuff. Definitely don't wait to work until you have your masters. What you can also do, is get your ASN and work as an RN while you get your BSN. Many hospitals and clinics will pay for nurses to continue their education. Just a suggestion. I'm going through a similar situation.
