How do i become a nurse?

How do I become a Registered Nurse? I need more information though?

  • I'm 15 turning 16 next month and I'm a sophomore in high school. I've just discovered recently that I want to become a registered nurse (RN). I've been researching all day today and I know the basics but I want more in depth on some subjects. I'm hoping to go straight for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at a University. I always get A's and B's as my grades I have a G.P.A of 3.8 currently. -What universities would be best to go straight into to get a BSN in CALIFORNIA? I want to choose 3-5 universities so that I can have backup options. -What classes are great to take in high school junior, senior year, and also in college? -Should I do any extracurricular activities like swimming and volunteer work at school and outside? Thanks in advance :)

  • Answer:

To get into the nursing program, the extra activities will not be considered. Grades alone (and you're doing fine). Keep in mind that college isn't the same as high school - you have to work a bit harder - not much free time to goof around. http://www.rn.ca.gov/careers/steps.shtml Not the problem with choosing more than 1 universities - it's the waiting list that you will face. For example, Cal State - will take a few years, but most private ones (West Coast University or Mount St. Mary's College) do not have waiting list, but it will cost you, quite a bit ($40,000 per year).
