I am a graduate nurse and passed nursing school with honors. However, I was not able to pass the boards.?

Due to various personal reasons, I was not able to pass the boards within the time constraint. Now I am left with a degree but no career. Anybody have any advice on what do I do now? I contacted nursing board in IL and they say to go back to school all over again. IL has one of the strictest nursing laws. If I just moved to Florida or California, I could go to a 3 month remedial class and reattempt the boards. But moving is not an option. Any suggestions on how I can use my nursing degree towards a career. Thanks

Answer:
What about the border states near you, like WI or IA or IN? I can't believe you can't find a state closer where you may be able to commute to a remedial course for a few short weeks or months in order to get your license. I find it rather shocking that IL wants you to retake your full nursing program. Wow. You really can't use your nursing degree without the license, they go hand in hand. Employers in any facet of nursing, if they want someone with a degree in nursing they want the license that goes along with it. If I were you I'd do whatever necessary, even if it meant relocating for a few months or living in a short-stay hotel during the week while the classes were being done. If any of this absolutely is not an option, then I guess there would really be no other choice than take the nursing courses again. It's not like you'd need the entire general ed. curriculum again along with it. I guess it all depends how badly you want to be a nurse, or if you should just return to college and major in something else that's slightly related, like maybe medical social work or health care administration. Good luck.

can you do a re-write? I'm up in Canada, here you can write it twice and if you fail you take a class but its not like going to school all over again. I'm not sure what the NCLEX procedure is. My suggestion would be to resolve whatever issues caused you to fail the first time.
Honestly, see if you can't figure out a way to go to CA or FL for three months and try again. You don't have to move necessarily. There may be an option where you have have someone stay in your home for three months and they would pay you rent, money that you could use to pay for your stay in CA or FL? Or do you have friends or family you can stay with. I would hate to think of anyone throwing away all that hard work.
