Can I work in the NICU being an RN?

What does it take to become an RN for the NICU, at CMMC?

  • I was premature, and would like to give a large thank you to the world by joining the nursing team for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, at Central Maine Medical Centre in Portland. I am only a sophomore in high school so I have a ways to go still, but I would like to know the requirements for becoming an RN, mainly to the NICU field. Please and thank you!

  • Answer:

You need to get your BSN. Typically you would do 60 hours of prereqs at a community college, do some volunteer work, and apply to a BSN program at a nursing school. Get online and pull up the programs at nursing schools in your area, then look for the list of prereqs and other requirements. Most require a GPA around 3.75 or so.
