If somebody hires an RN for private duty then it's because the patient needs some kind of skilled care that a CNA cannot provide.

in a private duty case, you will do what is expected as far as your nursing duties, and if personal patient care is required, then you will be doing the same job a cna would do.unless the patient has a private duty aide that comes in to do their care. the only place nurses don't do the same job as a cna is in nursing homes, other than that, it's pretty much part of your nursing dutes. after all, cna work is basically nursing 101. on a side note: even in nursing homes these days, nurses are starting to be required to help cnas on the floors. especially as far as safety goes, answering call lights, alarms etc. too much work, too little people.
