How old do I have to be to work at a nursing home?

  • Im 15 years old right now, and was thinking to get a job at a nursing home when I turn 16 cause I want to be an OBGYN so might as well get some practice with patients, I was jst wondering how much they make and if I am eligible at the age of 16. Thank you.

  • Answer:

My daughter worked in a nursing home and was a senior carer, you have to be 18 and it is the minimum wage and study for your NVQ Healthy & Social Care Level 1-3 but it wont help you with future nursing or OBGYN - Daughter applied for nursing degree and the nursing home or the NVQ's was not taken into consideration. To do a medical degree and be an OBGYN you need top grades in school exams, especially in english, maths and science subjects

Yes, you are eligible to work, but I would start out doing volunteer work at the nursing home instead of expecting pay. I do not know if they will pay someone who is not licensed to work at that particular job.

I think you need to have proper education first, it is people you will be dealing with. 18 would be a legal age not sure about it but you need to have a proper training first before indulging yourself into this job. wish you luck!
