Is Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) the same thing as a Nurses Aide?

    Yes and No - A nurses aid is someone who has not gone through the State Course (usually 120 hours of lecture, lab, and clinical). If you have not taken this course and test you are considered a Nurses Aide (or a nurse assistant) If you have taken the course AND passed the State CNA exam (oral and skills) you are a CNA. My sister in law just took the course - and I am a nurse! Good Luck - I recommend taking the course - it is actually pretty fun and your pay will increase with the licensure

I am a CNA in Iowa and I started as a NA. The only difference was I could not lift residents with maxi or sara lift. I could not do blood pressure or temps or resp. I could not feed any residents in there rooms by myself. And with the C in front of the NA I make more money per hour. Just remember one thing if you have a NA or CNA is no different when it comes to your resident. You are still important!! Good Luck!!

Yes it is. Nurses' Aide is the shortened way of saying CNA or certified nurses' aide. You must be certified in most states to be a nurses' aide: not just anyone can transfer, ambulate, feed people. If you don't know the proper way, you can end up dropping someone or causing them to choke to death.

Certified Nursing Assistants in my mind are a lot more trained and experienced then that of the Nurses Aide. The Certified Nursing assistants are trained and experienced and covered under the liability act and insurance that the hospitals provide. Good luck:)
