How old do you have to be to become a Pharmacy Technician and what would i need to do?

  • I volunteer at a hospital and i need to start making money, im 16 and a junior in high school. i would need to have it be part time. but i just want to know if i would qualify and how i would start the process of becoming certified.

  • Answer:

To be a tech, you need to have at least a HS diploma or GED. Google "becoming a pharmacy tech in [your state]" and see what the requirements are. That said, hospitals usually look for at least 3 - 5 years of experience when they hire pharmacy techs.

Other answers

You have to be 18 because you will have access to strong medications and hospitals and pharmacies do not hire pharm techs under age 18. Legal issues with you being a minor. So apply when you are over age 18. And to work in a hospital you need to be a certified pharm tech, so you have to go to a training school.

Educated

You could be like a pharmacy assistant, but not a technician until you're a little bit older. You will gain some invaluable work experience that would help you to be able to get into this field. Look at your local community college. They will probably offer this program for you to take. Good luck:)
