Why dont I get called for jobs?
-
I'm 24 y/o. I have been unemployed for almost a year and now Ive moved to a different city and still unemployed. I have applied EVERYWHERE. Literally. i have held very important jobs in the past. Specially my last job, it was a big deal. But the office closed and I was left out of work. I had the luck of always applying for a job and ALWAYS landing it. Now, I don't even get called for interviews. Why? My resume is up to date and I even have amazing references just waiting to recommend me to any future employers. By amazing references I mean Harvard Graduates who know me personally and professionally, a high powered lawyer who would put her hands on the burner for me, art directors, teachers, the list goes on and on (I dont mention them on my resume but I do mention that I have references who support me). But no employer has even called to give me an interview. I dont mind working retail or any entry level position, Im still in college (i have an AA in Psych) so I know everyone starts at the bottom. Does anyone have any input as to why people dont call? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

first impressions last. get a decent outfit when you go to give your resume. Cover even the smallest detail like the cleanliness of the back of your shoes. you get the idea. smell nice but not over the top. smile if you have pearly whites. smile anyway even if you don't just tone it down a bit. break the ice by mentioning something completely irrelevant when giving your interview. good luck.
There must be something. But it's not obvious from your info. All the same, there must be something I cannot see. I suggest you visit an employment agency and ask then for tips. Example" you need to dress/groom appropriately. You shouldn't use foul language. Hopefully those don't apply, but there is no way to know from your post
A lot of people looking for jobs.... you have to make yourself stand out. Don't wait for them to call you! When you drop off an application or resume, ask to schedule an interview. Be prepared to do the interview on the spot. Show interest in the work. Do some homework on the company. Explain your interest in the position.
