How long to wait after interview to call and check up?

Should I call new job to check my status or wait longer?

  • My friend hooked me up with a phlebotomist job at a hospital, I passed the interview, I passed the physical test, my labs are good, PPD good, etc. I'm just waiting on the doctor to approve of my medical test results and to fax something over to the HR department saying I'm okay to start. However, it's been 3 days so far and havent heard anything. Should I just wait a full week then call the doctors office and check? I'm just a little confused as to why it would take so long to review someone's chart, who's healthy and good to start work, approve it, then fax the necessary clearance? Shouldn't that take like less than a day to do? Perhaps I'm looking too much into this?

Should wait a little bit longer. Sometimes depending on your doctor, or depending on the HR department, something might have slipped, or it might have taken a little bit of time to get the results and so on. If by Thursday or Friday, you don't receive any call, then call them.

Do wait a week. It may not seem to take long to review a chart and fax it but keep in mind that you're not the only customer who has this done.

I don't know much about the medical field, but my advice would be to wait another day or two and then call, saying something along the lines of "I had an interview, test, etc.... and I just wanted to follow up." It sounds like it should be done soon, but doctor's are pretty busy people and it is very possible to get sidetracked and forget a small job like that. Your call would probably remind them. Remember - a squeaky wheel gets the most grease!
