Can I still get a job as a CNA nurse with an misdemeanor class A Assault?
-
I need some help please, I got arrested recently and charged with an A class misdemeanor, I got out on probation, well I got certified as a nursing assistant back in 2010 now I worry that I won't be able to get a job in a healthcare field. Would this charge affect me from getting a job as a nurse? It really sucks, I just was being stupid for one night and got in a fight, now I don't know what to do, I been applying at many places for a nurse position and they all require clean background. I already mailed many resume's, and still have not heard from anyone.

Answer:
Honestly, the answer is no, however you should talk to an attorney that handles those matters. Being that this affects your income maybe you should think about non-direct care jobs and keep your temper under control, because it will follow you around. Good luck

no not with any violence however as far as anti social behavior like the person above says? not true. i know plenty of cna's and nurses who have anti social behavior and good ones. I also no a very outgoing cna that is abusive to the patients. Telling them off all the time and turning the hard banging there limbs on rails. She illegally does the nurses work for them so they cover for her but, she had no anti social behavior.
No, you won't get a job as a CNA or an LPN or an RN. Anything on your background check that shows you've been violent with other people, or generally any display of antisocial behavior, will be grounds for an automatic rejection. They can't take the risk of exposing the patients to that kind of behavior, even if you would never hurt them in a million years. The establishment can get in serious trouble for having a person with a criminal record directly dealing with patients. I mean antisocial behavior as in antisocial CRIMINAL behavior. In other words, getting arrested for getting in fights, verbal abuse, physical abuse, etc. I'm not just talking about people skills. Maybe I wasn't clear. That's more of an British term anyway (e.g. ASBOs).
