Online teen job applications?

Help me with my job search. So online job applications really work?

  • I was laid off recently because the company I was working for closed down. I have been applying for jobs online for about a month now, but so far not a single phone call from any of those companies. I am starting to think that applying for jobs online is a waste of time actually; so, can anyone give me some tips as to what would be a better job-hunting strategy? I am looking for something in the medical field (my last job was as an MA). I have gone personally to places to apply only to be told to go to the company's website and apply there. But like I said, it's not yielding anything. Being unemployed is really depressing! Even though it's been just over 1 month it feels like ages. Any help will be really appreciated.

  • Answer:

the problem is NOT you, but the employers. they know they can be discriminating in this economy. you are doing right by contacting prospective employers. what i would do is contact them by phone first (basically, marketing yourself), and then apply online. you are right that it appears it's a waste of time applying thru online company websites. also, try to send your resume out to recruiters. it may not warrant anything, but let them rack their brains for you...without it costing you a thing. the more feelers you put out there, the better your responses or the possibility that you will find something faster. just stay positive, and something will turn up with a little effort.

Applying online IS a waste of time - unless you are a professional and are willing to move out of state for a job. Sounds like you may be a professional. Go in person - and apply if you want something local. Look in your newspaper's classied ads for job openings. Secret - go to your employment/unemployment office. As soon as a job is posted - go drive to the place and fill out an application. .

There are some good on line placement services. Try: Career Builders.com, Monster, and Manhattan Jobs, Spider Make sure you have a good resume showing all your skills and the specialties of the Dr.'s you worked for, also show your computer skills and if you know EMR (electronic medical records) as we have about 2 years and that system will have to be used in all offices. You can also post your resume on some of the sites above. When you do a search put your state in and also title as "medical assistant" in and that will direct you to positions in your area. Good Luck!
