Okay, where I am located at, they are swiftly phasing out LPNs in favor of RNs. I assume you will eventually be an RN. Otherwise, please don't consider only being an LPN as a career. Honestly, I'd go ahead and work at just getting your RN license and skip the whole LPN situation. Most hospitals are beginning to favor Patient Care Techs/Certified Nurses Assistants and then just RNs. The hospital I want to work at will hire you as a PCT without a license and then you can get your official state licensing making you a CNA if they want you to be certified. Of course, I don't know where you are planning to work at. Personally, I am going to start out as a PCT while working on my 2nd degree as an RN. Seriously consider asking some nurses where you'd like to work at if your hospital/s really use LPNs or are favoring a kind of PCT/RN combo without many LPNs. Or if you don't want to call or ask around, visit the hospitals' websites and click on the Careers section and see what they are really hiring. You might know some LPNs but they may just be grandfathered in and you may have a slim chance at getting a job as one.
