CAN I STILL GET A NURSING JOB WITH A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND?
-
I am in nursing program (LVN/LPN). Im 20 years old. When I was 17 I got in trouble being stupid with my friends.. I have a harassment charge on me which was dismissed. I was arrested though because when i got in trouble some girl said i stole her phone while we "jumped" her. (not true) So i had a felony charge on me for aggravated assault which was DROPPED because I proved otherwise. I passed the background check to get into the program. But now they said if i have ever had a charge i have to file a declaratory order or something. Im scared I wont be able to get my license? Or a job when i finish school :( I dont know if i should be worried or not. But the charge i did have harassment was dismissed. and the felony was dropped! I dont know if the board of nursing will still let me get my license Any suggestions advice? THANK YOU

Answer:
You do NOT have a criminal Background. Yes you were arrested but charges were dismissed. So you can get a job.

You really need to talk to the nursing program coordinator at your school about this one. I have a feeling that you will be OK as you were never convicted of a felony but you might want to make sure. Otherwise, because the charges were dropped and dismissed I wouldn't even mention them unless you are applying for a job that requires a security clearance.
Why'd you jump her? You can get a nursing job, because you were 17. You can do anything if you are under 18 and it's all good. If you are going to steal, do so, while you are under 18.
yes u can get the job, unless the type of criminal deals with healthcare position which u r applying for. Go for the job, u wont be in trouble. Btw whyd u jump her.
This is going to sound stupid, but some arrests - even with charges dropped - can remain on your public record. The only way to find out is to go to your local law enforcement center and ask for a criminal investigation report on yourself. The good news - dropped charges can be cleared from your record. The bad news - depending on your state and county, you may be asked to pay a fee to fee this removed. Nursing is a licensed profession and anything on a criminal investigation report can affect hiring and licensing, so I'd get it cleared it you find anything there. Good luck.
