Would it be hard to be a pharmacist?

Is becoming a pharmacist extremely hard?

  • I considered becoming a nurse, but I don't think I could deal with the grossness of it. However, I think if I could make it through school I could do well being a pharmacist. Can anyone tell me how hard it is in school? Can anyone tell me what all classes I would have to take? I will be going to community college first. Also, how much would it cost to become a pharmacist? Thank you for anyone who can give me input. =)

  • Answer:

Prerequisites for pre-pharmacy depend on the pharmacy you want to go to. Some require less than others. The main ones are two general chemistry classes, two organic chemistry classes, two biology classes, biochemistry (depending on school), calculus, two english courses, history, communications, humanities classes, etc. The cost of pharmacy school also varies. The school I have looked up was kinda around $80-$100,000 but that could be way off. Check the school you want to apply to in the future for this information, and see if scholarships are available. As far as schooling, I hear it's pretty tough. I looked at the schedule for UGA's pharmacy program, and you take around 16-19 credit hours which is around 7-10 classes. However, if you are an aspiring pharmacist student, work hard and you will do well. Good luck to you :)

It takes the same amount of years to become a pharmacist as it does to become a doctor. It costs quite a bit of money too. I don't know how hard the schooling is but I can find out.

A pharmacist should be strong in the sciences (i.e. biology, chemistry/general/inorganic, physics, microbiology, and "general" anatomy & physiology). Calculus may also be one of the prerequisites to possibly get accepted into pharmacy school. Please also be aware that prerequisites and admissions requirements may be slightly different for each school of pharmacy. Competition is supposed to be KEEN for admissions to pharmacy school, too. With regard to schooling, please avoid those for-profit schools such as devry, U of P, strayer, ITT tech, westwood, everest, penn foster and others as they are merely out to "make a profit" (** and their course credits usually do NOT transfer to other schools).
