Can I be a computer technician with a degree in Computer Science?

Which career or degree shoul i pick to be a computer repair technician?

  • Now i was checking the CUNY curriculum and bcc offer me a electronic engineering technology degree,BMCC offers me(Computer Network Technology,Computer Science,Computer Information Systems) la guardia cc offers a Computer Technology degree which one shoul i pick to be a computer repair technician..Or any other suggestion.

    You might not need a degree at all but definitely not any one of those because repairing computers is not what those degrees are geared towards. Electronic engineering technology degree and Computer Network Technology are geared more towards implementation of electronics & networks, Computer Science is involved in producing software, and Computer Information Systems is all about the transfer of information using computer technology. You don't want to be simply a computer repair technician. Computers don't break that often, you know? You will starve. If you want to be a computer tech you want to study Computer Networking and the different types of IT certification available. That will ensure you a stable job at a company since large companies rely in computer networks and system integration with large databases. The other path would be to go for computer science or engineering. Computer science is basically programming. There's also computer engineering which is a combination of CS and electronics and focuses mostly in computer architecture, programming chips and processors, etc. However, with an associates degree in CS or engineering you won't get a job either since you need a bachelor's degree. Nonetheless, the pay and the job opportunities are higher. Computer Information System is more focused on the use of software for the office. e.g. Microsoft Office, accounting, database management, etc. Probably not what you are looking for.
