How do I become a programmer?

How do I become a developer/programmer?

  • The question is as simple as it gets. I want to learn how to be a developer/programmer. I don't know why, but I developed a new-found love for technology, and it inevitably led to coding. I don't know how to code properly, but I have learned a little Python. However, I realize that Python is mainly used websites. I want to create software. Objective C, C++, all that stuff is necessary for learning it right? I'm also aware that you have to be fairly good at math. Well, I'm a 15 year old Asian boy. I already have the headstart by being born/ Anyways, can someone give me SPECIFIC STEPS AS TO HOW TO BECOME A DEVELOPER/'PROGRAMMER? PLEASE, IT IS SOMETHING I WISH TO DO FOR FUN. Psychology is what I'm shooting for.

  • Answer:

C++ and Java scripting are a must. I suggest going to a local communitty college and talking to an advisor as to what courses you would need for a degree. If there are any dual enrollment classes offered at your high school take those so you'll have a leg up in credits. My high school offered Cisco and A+ classes. If your school offers something similar I would suggest enrolling. Also math is important so take advanced math classes. Now if you're not looking to make this a career your only other option would be to order books and programming software related to the fields of C++ and Java and that can be pretty pricey.

In response to your statement about "I'm a 15 year old Asian boy. I already have a headstart (sic) by being born" -- nobody cares. *NEWS FLASH* computers don't care about your race. In my 13 years of programming experience, I have never once been scanned by a computer and seen "Caucasian" appear on the screen. In order to learn how to program computers, you're going to need to learn them step-by-step, methodically, and through hard work just like any white, black, Indian, Arab, Native American, or anyone else. You'll probably need to learn several programming languages, take computer science courses, and get some sort of degree in computers just like anybody else. Assuming that your race gives you some special advantage is ridiculous. Go ahead -- type up your resume right now and put "yo dawg i dont know nuthin bout computerz but i'm azn" on the top line and apply for a job. See if your "head start" helps you land a job. In other words, your first step should be to get rid of your arrogance and sense of racial superiority. THEN start learning some programming languages.
