How can I find a job?
-
I graduated 3 months ago with bachelor in civil engineering and currently live in UAE. I have been looking for a job but till now i found zero.I searched the net everyday looking for job opening, but couldn't find a job for fresher and in some cases i applied, however i got no replies. Its really hard to find a job for civil engineer in this area because the job market is basically saturated with civil engineers, half of my batch couldn't find a job and the ones who did were by relatives and connections .

Answer:
You used the magic word, connections. So how do you go about getting these connections. Find out about the professional Civil engineering societies in your area. In the US, societies meet once a month for dinner, and a short presentation on some topic. I am an electrical, last week we had a presentation on PLS-CAD software for transmission line design. Half the people at our meeting were civil engineers. Maybe the $4,000 cost of the course could open up new possibilities. But the point of the meeting is you meet real civil engineers, and you start making those connections. And what is this no replies business. You need human contact. The HR assistant receives 50 resumes for the job. Call the people up before and after you send in your resume. That way they will actually read it and you have a chance. Remember your phone manners, and learn the names of the HR assistants you talk to. People like to deal with people who are nice. Develop a web presence. This will catch the eye of head hunters. Many jobs today are called "hidden jobs" meaning, many of them are not even posted on job boards. Rather recruiters are sent out looking for candidates; or friends within the company recommend a person. Networking, networking, and more networking. Join industry specific groups (LinkedIn is a great place for this). Also - many recruiters look for job candidates on LinkedIn so be sure that your profile very clearly states what you do and what you are looking for.
