Administrative clerk for a restaurant?

How can I relate my previous jobs to the one I'm applying for?! (Waitressing -> Registration Clerk)?

  • I am so happy that I got an interview for a position as a registration clerk at a hospital becuase my previous jobs have all been in the customer service/restaurant field. I'm just a student and the hospital doesn't typically even hire students for this position. I'm really nervous, especially for questions that ask about how my previous jobs have prepared me for this one. How can working as a waitress prepare me for working as a clerk in a hospital? I have no idea.

  • Answer:

Emphasize your vast experience in working with people from a variety of ethnicities and economic levels, especially in stressful situations, without losing your cool. As a registration clerk, you will still be providing customer service of a sorts, so think about what will be similar between the two jobs (impatient people, rush periods, rude "customers," etc.). Good luck!
