What can i do with a major in journalism?

What can I study to compliment my Journalism Degree? Computer Science Minor, Marketing Minor?

  • I am currently heading into my Sophomore year of college, and I am majoring in Online Journalism. I know for a fact I am very interested in writing, and my ultimate goal is to work at either a Magazine, or Online Magazine. I currently have an internship at a local paper in the Marketing Department, and have developed in interest in Marketing. Through my networking in the Journalism field, I have been highly advised by many to gain a strong knowledge of Computers and Marketing. So my question is what can I do to compliment my degree in Journalism. I was thinking about doing a double major in Journalism/Marketing, and a double minor in Computer Science and Creative Writing. Simply put, how can I compliment my Journalism major for the work force, to make me marketable in the work force, and provide me with longevity?

    What are your interests, hobbies, talents, etc? If you did not major in journalism, what would your major be? You must have specialist knowledge to break into some specialized area of journalism. E.g. biology textbook editor, gardening columnist, car repair writer, medico-legal journalism, etc. Computers? Marketing? Too broad. You need a very specialized niche, e.g. be an expert in Java programming, or auto insurance website article marketing, or ....
