Anyone have a marketing degree?

Is CIM's Professional Certificate in Marketing worth while?

  • I graduated in June 2011 from university with a 2:1 in Art History. Since June I have been working for a small business as a Marketing Assistant on a year long contract. As the company I have been working for is only small (3 people work in the marketing department) I have learned very quickly on the job and get to deal with many different areas of marketing. My contract ends in June and I am considering doing an intensive CIM Professional Certificate in marketing to enhance my chances of getting another job in marketing in June. I am worried that because I do not have a marketing or business based degree it will be difficult for me to find another marketing job, even with good references and a years experience. Would doing CIM (I would fund myself out of my life savings) significantly improve my job prospects? Has anyone else done this qualification or hired someone with it?

  • Answer:

Do it! You will always have one up on anyone without it, particularly as you also have some experience in the area. It also shows how committed you are to a career in marketing which is important.
